Whittier es un pueblo de Alaska que tiene 200 habitantes. Hasta aquí todo es normal, si no fuera que todos ellos viven… en el mismo edificio. A finales de la década de los 50 se construyó en esta localidad un edificio de 14 plantas llamado Torre Begich,

La Torre Begich también es la sede de una oficina de correos, un hospital, la comisaría, la oficina del alcalde, un supermercado, una lavandería, un pequeño hotel y una iglesia. También tiene salas para exhibiciones y una piscina cubierta.
